My Mom, The Genealogist

I used to hate history. There. I’ve said it. When my mom used to talk about her genealogy and history research, I’d cringe. Oh no, here she goes again. Mom died in 2005 and my sisters and I are still going through her things. She was a pack rat and there’s a LOT to go through. The surprising thing is that the more pieces of her life we uncover, the more I’m getting to know her as a person, not just as my mom. And I’m discovering that she was a really interesting person. I have come to love history and genealogy as she did. I understand the thrill of it and the desire to share with others who have similar interests. Mom planted many seeds inside me over the years and they’ve taken a long time to begin to grow. And now they have. So, in honor of my mom and her 50 years of research in history and genealogy, I share this picture of my parents from 1939.

Wow- that was so touching. And the 1939 photo is absolutely stellar.

Hi Carolyn, It’s so interesting to have the opportunity to peal back some of the many layers of my mom’s life and get to know her in ways I’d never imagined. It also makes me think I might want to go through my own journals and tear out a few pages 🙂 Thanks for your comments!
